The 8 Best Football Podcasts you should listen to in 2023
Some of us listen to the radio on the way to work, others might stick on some 90’s bangers. However, if you are like me and can’t quite get enough of football there is always a podcast spewing their analysis or opinions on games and news for you to listen to.
I have been on the hunt to find my favourite podcasts, some have been great, and others have been utterly awful. Sadly some are no longer with us, but I have compiled a list of the top 9 football podcasts for you (and me) to listen to!
1. The Athletic Football Podcast (Spotify)
The Athletic is most known for its subscription-based blogs (and featured in the best football apps article).
However, they are also absolutely killing the podcast game! With Ayo Akinwolere hosting the show with the likes of David Ornstein, Adam Crafton & Matt Slater all featuring you are in for a real treat.
From previewing the upcoming fixtures to analytical breakdowns of the latest action they will have you covered.
2. The Peter Crouch Podcast (Spotify)
Less serious than some of the others on this list but a great podcast that reminisces about some of Crouchy’s most memorable moments from his career.
He has been joined by an abundance of guests all bring their own experiences to the studio. It’s a guaranteed laugh and well worth a listen!
3. Pitch Side (Spotify)
Another lighthearted podcast for the list and certainly full of controversial opinions but it’s a great one to spark a footballing conversation with a mate. Hosted by popular YouTubers Reev, Theo Baker & Tom Garratt they often invite a guest onto each show and delve into some common debates but it goes without saying there are some interesting takes.
4. The Overlap with Gary Neville (Spotify)
Gary Neville is one of the best pundits in England at the moment. But I bet you didn’t know he was a great interviewer as well. Just like Steven Bartlett in the business world, Gary Neville has a unique way of connecting with people and getting them to reveal stories about themselves.\
He has interviewed the likes of Marcus Rashford, Vincent Kompany, Jill Scott, and many more diving into both their professional and personal lives to uncover more about some of the elite.
5. Fozcast – The Ben Foster Podcast (Spotify)
Another ex-professional with a podcast. But yet it’s so much more! Some great insights into the life of a professional footballer from the wages they earn to life on the road traveling around Europe for both club and country.
Ben gives a fascinating insight into a light-hearted podcast that has boomed since he began recording.
6. Football is Nice with Russell Brand (Spotify)
A bit like Marmite, you either love him or you hate him, but regardless of your opinions, Russell Brand’s unwavering love for football is clear. He has a great way of articulating his opinion on many subjects surrounding football and the grip it has on our culture. Their Spotify bio sums up what you can expect really.
‘Russell Brand is joined by co-host Gareth Roy to talk about football and football culture from a deep, humorous, and philosophical perspective…concluding that it is nice.
7. Football Social Daily (Spotify)
The Football Social Daily, as expected uploads football content, onto socials, daily. Talk about doing what it says on the tin!
They focus their conversations around the Premier League and are great at discussing the latest news and happenings in the EPL.
8. Football Daily (Spotify)
Another one that does what it says on the tin, this time produced by the BBC. It’s hosted by Mark Chapman who is joined by Steve Crossman, Darren Fletcher, and other members of the Radio 5 Live team! Like many podcasts, they analyse upcoming fixtures, give their analysis on recent games and of course, share their opinion on recent happenings.
Well, there we have it, the 9 football Podcasts I would recommend listening to. Of course, listening to all 9 would be a mammoth task if you wanted to keep on top of every episode. So I would suggest picking a couple that tickled your fancy before jumping into more.
